Why Use Our Free Unix Timestamp Converter Online – Epoch to Date & Date to Epoch?

Every developer, data engineer, and system administrator encounters Unix timestamps daily — whether debugging API responses, analyzing server logs, querying database records, or interpreting webhook payloads — and our free online Timestamp (Epoch) Converter is built to make that job effortless. A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds (or milliseconds in JavaScript) that have elapsed since the Unix Epoch: January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC. While machines handle this format natively, humans need a fast, reliable way to translate these opaque numbers into meaningful dates. Our converter works bidirectionally: paste any Unix timestamp in seconds or milliseconds and instantly get the equivalent UTC time, your browser's local time, the ISO 8601 standard format, and a human-friendly relative time like '3 days ago' or '2 hours from now'. For the reverse direction, pick a date and time in the date pickers and convert it to a Unix timestamp in either seconds or milliseconds format. The live epoch panel at the top of the tool shows you the current Unix timestamp in both units, updating in real time — making it easy to grab the current epoch for testing or logging. All processing is handled entirely client-side in your browser using the native JavaScript Date API, so your timestamps and date data are never sent to a server. Whether you're debugging webhook timestamps, analyzing JWT expiry times, parsing database created_at fields, or investigating API rate limit headers, our Epoch Converter delivers fast, accurate, multi-format results with zero friction.

Free Unix Timestamp Converter Online – Epoch to Date & Date to Epoch FAQ

A Unix timestamp (also called epoch time) is the number of seconds that have elapsed since January 1, 1970, at 00:00:00 UTC.

Unix timestamps are traditionally in seconds. JavaScript's Date.now() returns milliseconds. Our tool supports both.

ISO 8601 is an international standard for representing dates and times, e.g. 2024-01-15T12:00:00.000Z.

Negative timestamps represent dates before January 1, 1970. Our converter currently supports positive timestamps only.

The 32-bit signed integer Unix timestamp will overflow on January 19, 2038 (the Y2K38 problem). 64-bit systems support much larger values.
